KryptoSpace discontinued

Given the increasing workload of my day job, I cannot maintain and support KryptoSpace as I should, and I have decided to discontinue the product. This wasn't an easy decision, and most of all I didn't want to leave paying customers without an alternative solution.

The alternative solution is a new product called
Espionage; this product is similar to KryptoSpace, but it offers more features and it is better integrated with the system. I have contacted the developer of Espionage, and he kindly agrees to give a discount to all the owners of KryptoSpace.

If you have purchased KryptoSpace KryptoSpace on or after October 10, 2008, feel free to request a full refund.

KryptoSpace 2.1.0 released

  • No surprises in the beta period, so here is the stable version. Two new small features have been added:
  • It is now possible to modify the password of a Vault without having to remove and re-create it.
  • It is now possible to store the password of an existing Vault, even if this was not done when the Vault was created.

You can download the application from the
download page.

Leopard and KryptoSpace

Leopard is out since more than one week, and we have been testing KryptoSpace to make sure that it is compatible and safe to use. No major problems have been found, but some users have an issue which prevents unmounting the encrypted Vaults (the only solution seems to be a reboot). The problem is independent of KryptoSpace, as the system refuses to unmout the folder, complaining that some files are in use (although no files are used). This is more annoying than dangerous, and a fix has already been developed.

A new version of KryptoSpace will be released in the next few days with the following new features:

The next version will be released as a public beta, though it should be safe to use, as no major changes have been done to the core functions.

Finally the first release of version 2.0.0 is ready!

As usual you can download it from the download section.
This is only the first step, many new features are under development and will be introduced before the final release.

A note of warning: this is a beta release; it is likely that some bugs sneaked into the code and there is a remote possibility of losing your data! Use this only if you feel comfortable with the risk and if you have a complete backup!

KryptoSpace 2.0

Sorry for the long silence, we were working on version 2.0 of KryptoSpace. The new version will be released in public beta shortly, and will be packed with new features!

  • Vaults can now be imported and exported from one machine to another;

  • Batch operations are now allowed: for example you can (un)mount or compact all your vaults in one single step;

  • Many users raised an issue with applications re-creating folders when those were not mounted; this problem is now solved;

  • A new detailed view has been added, displaying more information for a Vault;

  • Display the actual disk space occupation of a Vault directly in KryptoSpace;

  • Sometimes Spotlight breaks the index for a volume; now it is possible to drop and recreate the index directly from KryptoSpace.

I will post some screenshots shortly!

KryptoSpace 1.3.0 released

The product is now able to automatically unmount all the encrypted folders when the user logs out (or if the session expires). This version also fixes some minor bugs. You can download KryptoSpace in the download section.
|

KryptoSpace 1.2.0 released

KryptoSpace is now able to automatically backup your encrypted folders (the backup is encrypted). A backup copy is created every time the folder is mounted.
In case of problems with a vault, the application will ask you if you want to restore the last valid version.

We have added controls on the free space, when encrypting a folder or creating a backup.

This update is strongly recommended to everyone.

You can download the new version in the download section.
|

KryptoSpace 1.1.0 released

We have added the drag & drop support in the main window.
In the unfortunate event that an encrypted folder becomes corrupted (because of a sudden restart in case of an electricity cut, for example), KryptoSpace is now able to detect and cleanly remove it.

Krypto space 1.0.0 released

The first official version of KryptoSpace is released. You can download a fully functional trial version, usable for 15 days. Once the trial period is expired, you will only be able to remove any existing encrypted folder. The application is released as shareware, and the cost is $12.95.
|

KryptoSpace 0.90 beta released

Probably the last beta before the first official release, unless some major bugs are detected.

The progress indicators in this version have been changed. Now the application is more informative on what it is doing: this is especially useful if you choose a highly secure deletion method, as the operation can take a long time.

KryptoSpace beta to be released very soon

KryptoSpace_orig
KryptoSpace is a new application for Mac OS X. If you are using the FileVault feature and you think that it is not flexible enough, KryptoSpace is the solution.

KryptoSpace lets you choose a number of folders to encrypt. These folders will be encrypted, but still visible at their original emplacement. For example, if you have confidential documents, you can just encrypt your Documents folder. KryptoSpace will create a secure disk (using the same technology as Apple FileVault), and it will securely delete the original content. If you choose to store your password in the system KeyChain and to automatically mount encrypted directories at login, you can work as usual. You can be sure that if your computer is stolen, nobody will be able to access your data, even if they have physical access to your hard disk. In the same way, the system administrator has no access to your data.

The product will first be released as a public beta, you can try it for free. As with any other beta version, please backup your data before using the product! Once a directory is encrypted and the original content securely deleted, it is impossible to retrieve your data if you lose the password or if the secure vault is corrupted.
